Passengers also get an extra 100mm of headroom – that’s a whole lot less crouching and a lot more comfort. Mellor Bus The low-floor area’s been stretched by 266mm, making space for four extra seats. In fact, there’s now room for up to twelve seats in the low-floor area alone – p...

Grab a Mate, Ditch the Car & Breathe Easier in Harrogate

Harrogate’s going greener – and The Harrogate Bus Company wants you and your plus-one to be part of the journey. In a fresh push to get drivers out of their cars and onto its all-electric buses, the firm has launched a new two-for-one travel offer for Fridays. The goal? Cleaner air, quieter streets and a more chilled-out end to the working week.

A group of five people stand in front of a red bus with Car Free Fridays on its display. They are smiling, raising their fists in celebration. Two people hold signs promoting zero carbon and the event. The scene is set on a sunny day.

It’s all part of Zero Carbon Harrogate’s Car Free Fridays campaign – and with Fridays being one of the busiest days on the town’s roads, the timing couldn’t be better.

Here’s the deal: two people can hop on and ride all day in and around Harrogate for just £6. That’s three quid each. Less than the price of a posh coffee. You can either ask the driver for a Harrogate Duo ticket or grab a Harrogate 1 day ticket on the Transdev Go app (just make sure it’s for a Friday).

And it’s not just Harrogate – this ticket’s valid all day in Knaresborough, out to Wetherby on the 7, Pool-in-Wharfedale on the FLYER A2 and even on the sparkling new Electric 36 buses as far as Harewood and Ripley Cross.

The whole thing’s been made possible thanks to a whopping £21 million investment in a shiny new fleet of single deckers and double-decker electric buses – transforming everyday travel and slashing emissions in one go.

Jason Asquith-Thorpe, General Manager at The Harrogate Bus Company, said:
“With the lighter nights now here and summer just around the corner, there’s no better time than now to make the most of our new electric buses as we join together to clear the air across our beautiful town.

“A total investment of £21 million has delivered a new fleet of single and double-deck electric buses, revolutionising the travel experience for our customers while dramatically cutting our own carbon footprint.

“Valued feedback from our customers has helped us to create bespoke interior designs on our new buses to make travelling comfortable, accessible and attractive, with fast and free Wi-Fi and USB device charging, and custom-designed seating in a part leather, part moquette design unique to us.

“There’s also a hearing loop and two colour audio-visual information screens, one facing the wheelchair space, giving constantly updated journey information. Each bus also features extensive safety systems, including electronic pedestrian and cyclist detection and automatic collision avoidance technology.

“Under the surface, there’s a powerful, zero emission electric motor which can provide all-day battery life – important for our busy routes across Harrogate and beyond.

“This value for money deal means two people can travel all day for £3 each – the same as just one signal journey under the Government’s current fare cap. And of course it comes without the hassle of driving on congested roads and paying for car parking – while helping to clear the air in Harrogate.”
Backing the campaign is environmental group Zero Carbon Harrogate, who are thrilled to see electric travel made that little bit more tempting.

Sunita Soundur, Climate Action Co-ordinator at Zero Carbon Harrogate, added:
“We’re delighted to see The Harrogate Bus Company backing Car Free Fridays with such a positive and practical incentive.

“Making electric bus travel more affordable through a two-for-one offer gives more people the chance to get involved, reduce emissions, and help create a cleaner, healthier Harrogate for everyone.”
So if you fancy swapping wheel rage for Wi-Fi and exhaust fumes for fresh air, this Friday might just be the perfect time to give the car a rest and let the bus do the driving.
