Greater Manchester Bus Services Back in the Hands of the People

Greater Manchester has taken a bold step in public transport, completing the historic re-regulation of its bus network. This milestone, the first in England in 40 years, represents a seismic shift in how the city-region connects its communities, promotes sustainability and drives economic growth. The transformation is part of the Bee Network, an ambitious vision for a fully integrated, “London-style” public transport system by 2025.

First Bus Turns Drivers into Cultural Ambassadors for Bradford 2025

Brace yourselves, First Bus is revving up to take centre stage for Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture. As the Official Travel Partner for this extraordinary year-long celebration, First Bus is all set to be your reliable ride to the action, bringing you closer to the art, culture and energy lighting up the city.

A group of bus drivers stands in front of three double-decker buses in a parking area. They are lined up in two rows, dressed in uniform, with a blue sky in the background.

With nearly 400 local drivers on the team, these friendly faces will be more than just drivers – they'll be unofficial guides, helping residents and visitors navigate the city's buzzing calendar of events. Got a question about a venue? Need advice on the quickest route? Your bus driver’s got your back.

Sustainability Goals on the Move

It’s not just about getting from A to B. First Bus and Bradford 2025 are teaming up to encourage greener travel. Think fewer cars on the road, reduced congestion and a lighter carbon footprint for everyone involved. It’s all about making sure this year of culture doesn’t just leave a mark – it leaves a legacy.

They’re even lending a helping hand to the hundreds of Bradford 2025 volunteers, making sure they can easily get to events and assist visitors. It’s a community effort and First Bus is front and centre.

Big Plans, Bigger Buses

Spot the bold new kid on the block: the Bradford 2025-branded bus. With its bright "Be Bold. Be Bradford." message, it’s already turning heads on city routes. But that’s just the beginning. Plans are in the works to bring in local artists and young creatives to jazz up even more buses. Talk about art in motion.

John Roxburgh, Head of Operations for First Bus North & West Yorkshire, couldn’t be prouder:

“The excitement is building as we get closer to the start of the year. We’re planning a dedicated display area in the depot to keep everyone, especially our drivers, updated with the calendar of events and grow our knowledge to support existing customers and visitors new to Bradford.”

Drivers with a Difference

Not content with simply driving, First Bus drivers are stepping into ambassadorial roles – think tour guide meets local legend. Decked out with snazzy Bradford 2025 badges, they’ll be your go-to for all things cultural, helping you find venues, routes and maybe even your next favourite event.

And let’s not forget the buses themselves. The fleet will double as moving billboards, proudly flashing the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture logo on their destination screens and donning vibrant vinyl displays. Roxburgh sums it up perfectly:

“Our team and our fleet will be a living, moving billboard for the City of Culture, helping to keep this once-in-a-lifetime spectacle in the minds of local people and newcomers to experience the brilliant entertainment and diversity in communities throughout Bradford.”

Dan Bates, Executive Director of Bradford 2025, is equally thrilled:

“We’re thrilled to have First Bus as an Official Travel Partner for Bradford 2025. Their support not only helps ensure that residents and visitors can travel to our events with ease, but it also reinforces our shared commitment to sustainability.

“With First Bus drivers acting as ambassadors for Bradford 2025, we’re creating a vibrant, welcoming experience for everyone who joins us in this exciting year ahead.”
