Warrington’s First Volvo BZL Electric Double Decker Arrives

Ready to ride? Warrington just took its electric bus game to new heights – literally! The very first Volvo BZL Electric double-decker has rolled into town, marking a major milestone in the switch to greener, cleaner travel. And let’s be real – who doesn’t love a double decker?

This isn’t just any bus. We’re talking about state-of-the-art, zero-emission, quiet as a mouse public transport, setting the tone for the 105 electric buses joining the fleet. It’s not just about looking good (though the sleek design is definitely a head-turner), but delivering next-level comfort and efficiency for all of us.

Upstairs, Downstairs – Electric Everywhere!

It’s all part of Warrington’s ambitious plan to ditch diesel and embrace all-electric buses. And this double-decker beauty? It’s leading the charge. With zero tailpipe emissions, it’s going to improve air quality, cut noise pollution and bring some serious eco vibes to the streets.

Warrington Borough Council Leader and Cabinet Member for highways and transport, Cllr Hans Mundry, said:

“These are exciting times for Warrington, with the introduction of our all-electric fleet set to transform bus travel in our borough.

“Our 105 buses will bring massive benefits for passengers, providing safe, quiet and comfortable journeys. These are buses which are truly fit for the future, with zero tailpipe emissions, which will improve air quality and support our work to tackle the climate emergency.

“We’ve made our ambitions clear, through our Local Transport Plan, to reduce emissions and congestion, increase the share of journeys made by bus and build sustainable transport into everyday life in Warrington. Our new electric buses will play a massive role in us achieving this.

“At the same time, we’ve been making enhancing our services across the board. This includes reduced fares – such as the newly announced £1 fare cap for all under 22s and free travel for all care leavers - enhanced timetables, all day concessionary pass use and new and improved bus shelters. Supported by these major improvements, our new electric fleet is set to usher in a bright new era for bus travel in Warrington.”

So, what’s in it for you, the humble bus rider? Quiet journeys (perfect for a mid-commute podcast), spacious interiors, and all the high-tech features you’d expect from a modern ride. Plus, these buses are built with safety in mind, complying with the strictest emissions and noise standards.

A Green Future, One Bus at a Time

The arrival of Warrington’s first double decker eBus is just the start. Soon, the entire fleet will be electric, thanks to Volvo and EO Charging’s hard work. With charging stations at the new depot powered by 100% green energy, we’re not just talking about electric buses – we’re talking full-on sustainability.

Domenico Bondi, Managing Director for Volvo Bus UK & Ireland, says:

“This has been an exciting project to work on with the team in Warrington, building a sustainable and future-proof electric bus system which is going to be truly world-class. At Volvo Buses, we are incredibly proud of our commitment to sustainability, safety, and quality, and we are confident the BZL Electric buses will bring a wealth of benefits which will be felt across the local community.”

So whether you’re sitting on the top deck for the view or grabbing a seat downstairs, your next bus journey just got a whole lot greener.

Why This Matters

This double decker isn’t just a cool new ride – it’s a symbol of Warrington’s commitment to a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable future. Whether you’re hopping on for a short trip or making your daily commute, you’re part of a huge step towards better air quality and less noise on our roads.

The future of bus travel has arrived – and it’s electric, double-decker, and packed with benefits. Get ready to ride the future in style!
