Bus services across the Liverpool City Region are set for a major transformation, with plans for a fully publicly-run bus network moving forward at pace. The introduction of a franchised system will see services brought under public control for the first time in nearly 40 years, promising more frequent buses, better connections and improved infrastructure. Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Franchising is Coming Sooner Than Planned You’ve probably heard about the move to bus franchising—where routes, fares and timetables will be planned by the public sector rather than private companies—but here’s what’s happening next. The first phase kicks off in St Helens and Wirral, with the new system up and running by September 2026. The whole region should be fully franchised by the end of 2027, a year ahead of schedule. Mayor Steve Rotheram, said: “Reliable, regular, and affordable buses are the backbone of a great public transport system. They connect people to work, education, and each ...

Uno Welcomes Freshers with New Volvo Double Deckers on X10 Route

Uno has just rolled out the big guns—or rather, the big buses. The University of Hertfordshire’s own bus operator has welcomed five brand-spanking-new Volvo B8L-MCV eVoSeti double deckers to their fleet, and they’ve arrived just in time for Freshers. Picture it: five shiny new buses making their debut at the Freshers Fair on Friday 27th of September, like rock stars about to hit the stage—except, you know, with USB chargers and less noise.

These bad boys are set to boost capacity on the ‘de Havilland Express’ X10 route, ferrying students from places as far as Luton to Hatfield in style. It’s perfect timing too because, let’s face it, Freshers is already chaos enough.

Jim Thorpe, Managing Director at Uno, summed it up nicely,

“Freshers is always a great time of year for the University, and for us, it’s always a pleasure to welcome students to their new home during their studies. Being able to coincide the celebration with the introduction of our new Volvos is even better this year!”

Now, these aren’t just any buses. Nope, they’re the result of some serious teamwork. Designed with input from legendary designer Ray Stenning (yep, the same guy who knows a thing or two about making things look fabulous), the new Volvos come decked out in Uno’s signature pink-and-purple livery. They’re sleek, roomy, and with space for 98 passengers, they’ll easily handle the growing demand for both students and locals.

“These new vehicles enhance our ability to provide safe and reliable transport for our students, which is our top priority. The support we have and continue to receive from Volvo Buses has really helped us achieve our goals, and it’s reassuring to know we can rely on their comprehensive after-sales service.”

Jim adds, probably with a proud glint in his eye. He’s especially happy about the after-sales support from Volvo Buses, which means keeping this fleet in tip-top shape won’t be a hassle. Safe, reliable and wrapped up in a chic livery? We love to see it.

Under the hood, these buses are packing Volvo’s D8K Euro VI diesel engine. That means they’re not only fuel-efficient but also have low emissions, which is a win for the environment. Oh, and if you’re worried about your phone dying on the way to class, don’t be—USB charging ports have got you covered. A lifesaver when you’ve been on TikTok a bit too long.

Uno’s been in the transport game since 1992, starting as University Bus for Wall Hall College. Rebranded in 2005, they’ve since expanded their reach across Hertfordshire and beyond, including routes in Northampton and a depot in Cranfield. With a commitment to continuously improve, they’re showing no signs of slowing down—just like these brand-new double deckers that have taken over the X10 route.

So, hats off to Uno for keeping students on the move, in style, and right on time for Freshers.
