Go-Ahead London, a Go-Ahead Group subsidiary, has ordered 32 Alexander Dennis Enviro100EV small electric buses. It’s the second deal with a London operator for these shiny new next-gen electric buses.

These little green (red) machines are set to zip through London’s narrow streets and housing estates, thanks to their neat size – just 8.5 metres long and 2.35 metres wide. But don’t be fooled by their compactness; they can still carry up to 41 passengers and 21 of them even get to sit down.
Go-Ahead London will be rolling them out from their Orpington Garage, serving local routes R1, R3, R4, R8 and route 233 between Eltham and Swanley.
Now, onto the nerdy bits: these buses are powered by the Voith Electrical Drive System (medium-duty version, of course) and come with hefty 354kWh batteries, courtesy of Impact Clean Power Technology. Translation? These buses are built for the long haul, with a 1.2GWh energy throughput ensuring no faffing around with battery replacements for years.
Neil Gladstone, National Account Manager at Alexander Dennis, chimed in, saying,
“Our Enviro100EV fits perfectly for the smaller single-deck buses on TfL routes. They tick all the boxes for TfL’s Bus Safety Standard, and with a driveline and batteries designed to go the distance, we’re buzzing to see Go-Ahead London choose the Enviro100EV for their small bus needs. Expect delivery in early 2025!”
Chris McKeown, Go-Ahead London’s Engineering Director, added,
“These buses are a brilliant example of top-notch public transport. We’re gearing up to put the Enviro100EV fleet to work on some of our busiest routes in outer London in 2025. As London’s biggest and most forward-thinking zero-emission bus company, I’m confident passengers and staff will love them.”
And finally, a word from Nick Owen, TfL’s Director of Buses:
“We’re thrilled to add these buses to our ever-growing zero-emission fleet, which now has almost 1,700 of the green machines. Their compact design makes them perfect for routes with narrower streets, giving passengers a sustainable, accessible, and affordable way to travel. We encourage our operators to make greener choices like this as we aim for a fully zero-emission fleet by 2030. Go-Ahead London’s move is a great step in that direction.”
