The company has recently clinched a substantial order to deliver 34 additional StreetDeck Electroliner buses to Arriva in the capital. These new additions to London's electric fleet will undoubtedly help to revolutionise public transport, bringing an additional wave of sustainable and eco-friendly commuting to the city.
The StreetDeck Electroliner: A Game Changer in Electric Transport
Wrightbus's StreetDeck Electroliner has quickly become a trailblazer in the realm of electric buses. Combining cutting-edge technology with efficiency, these buses boast an impressive range and ultra-fast recharge times. Official assessments conducted by UTAC using the ZEMO-accredited Ultra Low Emission Bus (ULEB) test have revealed outstanding results.
The Electroliner achieved a remarkable energy consumption rate of just 0.69 kWh/km, which is approximately half of its closest battery electric double-deck competitor in the UK. Moreover, it outperforms all other battery electric single-deck buses on the ZEMO website.
But the Electroliner's prowess doesn't stop at energy efficiency. It's also a champion in reducing carbon emissions. According to ULEB calculations, this remarkable bus produces a remarkable 86% less CO2 per kilometer when compared to the ZEMO Euro6 Diesel baseline. This environmental commitment aligns with London's broader sustainability goals and contributes to the city's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
Strengthening the Partnership with Arriva
Wrightbus's partnership with Arriva, one of the UK's leading bus operators, has been instrumental in driving the adoption of zero-emission public transport. The latest order of 34 Electroliner buses is a significant milestone in this ongoing collaboration. Marcos Hart, Operations Director for Arriva UK Bus, expressed his delight in welcoming these zero-emission electric vehicles into Arriva's growing electric operation.
Marcos Hart, operations director for Arriva UK Bus, said:
“We are delighted to once again be partnering with Wrightbus to welcome a further 34 zero-emission electric vehicles into our growing electric operation.
“These state-of-the-art, high-spec buses will arrive at our Enfield depot in early 2024 and will serve passengers on Route 279, taking our London fleet to over 100 electric vehicles across our four electrified garages.
“In addition to enhancing the onboard experience for our passengers, this investment is a further demonstration of our commitment to delivering a sustainable and environmentally friendly bus network, while supporting TfL’s long-term vision for London.”
Arriva's commitment to sustainability is evident in their electrified fleet. The new buses are set to arrive at Arriva's Enfield depot in early 2024, and they will serve passengers on Route 279. This order pushes Arriva's electric bus fleet in London to over 100 vehicles, distributed across their four electrified garages.
This growth not only enhances the passenger experience but also reinforces Arriva's dedication to delivering a sustainable and environmentally friendly bus network, in line with Transport for London's (TfL) long-term vision for the city.
Supporting Jobs and the Green Agenda
The production of the new StreetDeck Electroliner buses will take place at Wrightbus's headquarters in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. This move not only exemplifies the company's commitment to providing high-quality, eco-friendly transportation but also supports the creation of hundreds of new high-skilled jobs. It contributes to the larger economic agenda of leveling up and promoting growth, ensuring the prosperity of the local workforce.
Jean-Marc Gales, CEO at Wrightbus, acknowledges the significance of their partnership with Arriva in advancing the cause of zero-emission public transport. He emphasises the positive impact their fleet has on communities and emphasises the need for ongoing support for zero-emissions transport to meet net-zero targets.
Jean-Marc Gales, CEO at Wrightbus, said:
"Our continued partnership with Arriva is hugely significant in the drive to zero-emission public transport.
“Seeing the impact our fleet is having on communities is incredibly gratifying and we must continue to strengthen the case for further support for zero-emissions transport to ensure net zero targets are met.
“We are consistently at the forefront of zero and low-emission travel and look forward to progressing future orders with bus operators across the globe.
“We can’t wait to see even more of our buses in operation, which will help passengers enjoy comfortable and cleaner transport.”
As a company consistently at the forefront of zero and low-emission travel, Wrightbus looks forward to fostering future collaborations with bus operators worldwide, furthering their mission to provide cleaner, more comfortable transportation options.
A Greener Tomorrow
Wrightbus continues to lead the way in decarbonising public transport throughout the UK and Ireland, with the Electroliner and their world-first hydrogen double decker, the StreetDeck Hydroliner. As these 34 new Electroliner buses prepare to hit the streets of London, passengers can look forward to a more comfortable and cleaner commuting experience. Wrightbus's commitment to innovation and sustainability continues to pave the way for a greener, more eco-conscious tomorrow in the world of public transportation.
