Greater Manchester Becomes First Major Conurbation Outside London to Cap Bus Fares

Greater Manchester residents will benefit when reduced bus tickets go into effect starting from the 4th of September 2022. Mayor Andy Burnham and the leaders of Greater Manchester have advanced the proposal for cheaper, easier tickets by a year in order to address the present cost-of-living crisis. Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) It is the largest improvement to the Greater Manchester bus network since deregulation 36 years ago and will save passengers on some trips about 50 percent on their journey cost. More than two-thirds of residents in the city-region are concerned about the cost of living crisis, therefore, this announcement will present a welcome assurance to many, making the cost of bus travel simpler from September.  Thanks to deregulation of the bus industry back in 1986, it gave operators the chance of offering the customer a bewildering amount of ticket kinds and prices to choose from, and they vary by operator. Manchester Airport has added two new 10.8m long British-built Alexander Dennis Enviro200 buses, they are equipped with bespoke luggage racks. The vehicles are outfitted with the award-winning Alexander Dennis SmartPack efficiency technology, which enables the Zemo Partnership to certify them as Low Emission Buses.
